Two individuals Zain Andani, 19, of Marsh Lane, Stanmore, and Vishal Pawar, 21, of Gaydon Lane, Colindale, were sentenced today for the robbery on February 17, in 2012 have been sentenced to prison for three and a half years each after carrying out a terrifying gunpoint robbery in Stanmore, an incident that left the young woman victim deeply shaken and prompted a swift police response.
The robbery took place when the pair confronted their victim and threatened them with what appeared to be a firearm. Acting in fear for her safety, the victim complied with the demands, handing over valuables as instructed. The offenders then fled the scene, leaving the victim distressed but fortunately unharmed.
Police launched an immediate investigation, gathering evidence and working to identify those responsible. Through their inquiries, officers were able to track down and arrest the suspects. Both were subsequently charged in connection with the robbery.
During court proceedings, the seriousness of the offence was made clear. The use of a weapon, particularly a firearm, significantly increased the severity of the crime, as it not only involved theft but also posed a grave threat to the victim’s life. The court heard details of the incident, including the fear experienced by the victim and the calculated actions of the offenders.
After considering the evidence, the court found both individuals guilty. They were each handed custodial sentences, reflecting the dangerous and traumatic nature of the crime. The judge emphasised that offences involving weapons will not be tolerated and that strong penalties are necessary both as punishment and as a deterrent to others.
In sentencing the two men Judge Arran said: “You clearly caused a great deal of terror in that young woman who wanted to walk safely home at night.”
Police have since reiterated their commitment to tackling violent crime and protecting the public. They also encouraged anyone with information about similar incidents to come forward, stressing the importance of community cooperation in bringing offenders to justice
Following the sentencing PC Andy Sullivan of Harrow police said: “This was a lengthy and complex investigation into what is one of the most disturbing robberies I have investigated.
“I would like to thank those members of the public who contacted Crimestoppers and the BBC Crimewatch team for their part in solving this crime and bringing two dangerous men to justice.
“Thankfully crimes of this nature are very rare in Harrow and we remain one of London’s safest boroughs.”
